Town of Brookhaven Comprehensive Land Use Plan Update

Welcome

Brookhaven is planning for its future!

 

The Town’s current Comprehensive Land Use Plan was adopted in 1996. Since then, Brookhaven has completed a number of focused studies examining the needs, growth, and character of its many hamlets. This planning effort brings those studies together into one coordinated framework that looks at both town-wide conditions and priorities, and local needs within each of Brookhaven’s six council districts.

 

By understanding the Town’s changing population, environmental conditions, and future opportunities, this update will help create a clear path forward that reflects today’s realities and tomorrow’s possibilities.

What is a Comprehensive Plan?

A Comprehensive Plan is both a vision for the future and a blueprint for how to get there. A Comprehensive Plan creates a future framework for a range of topics such as land use, economic development, infrastructure, and housing. The Town of Brookhaven's Comprehensive Plan will identify a vision for the future and outline a series of recommendations and steps to implement that vision.

The updated plan will include: 

  • Town-wide goals and strategies

  • Goals and priorities for each of Brookhaven's six council districts

  • A shared, community-driven vision to guide future growth, development and investment throughout Brookhaven

Planning ahead helps Brookhaven stay strong, vibrant, and prepared for change.

This updated plan will include: 

  • Respond to population and housing needs

  • Support local businesses and jobs

  • Improve roads, infrastructure, and public services

  • Protect natural resources and open space

  • Enhance quality of life across all hamlets and neighborhoods

  • Build a resilient and thriving future for current and future residents, businesses, and visitors

Who is facilitating this?

The planning process is being guided by the Town Planning and Environmental Department and a Comprehensive Plan Working Group. The process is being facilitated by a consultant team led by MJ Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Land Surveying, P.C., supported by Bay Environmental, Camoin Associates and Cashin Associates, P.C.

Get Involved!​

The planning process will be a consensus-driven effort which includes a robust public engagement component to gather input from residents, visitors, business owners, property owners, and other stakeholders in the community. Your participation in this process is vital!
